All you need to know while servicing your water purifier

Water purifier

Overview

A good water purifier extracts excess salts, suspended particles, and microbes. They also maintain the necessary vitamins and minerals in the water itself. Nowadays, pure, clean, healthy water is not readily available. This is due to rising populations, industrial growth, and environmental degradation. So it is even more necessary for us to be aware of purification techniques in this scenario. In order to ensure that our drinking water is of good quality, we also have to check out the available water purifiers on the market. Many minerals are naturally present in water, and these are important for the human body. However, having or consuming an excess amount of these minerals can cause several illnesses.

On the same mechanical concept, both water filters and water purifiers work. First, they suck up dirty water or water contaminated, flush out impurities ranging from sediments to micro-organisms, and then distribute clean water. There is a significant difference between the two. The main difference is that a purifier will kill viruses and bacteria that can not be removed by filters. To destroy or trap viruses, some purifiers use chemicals, and others use an electrostatic charge. You cannot buy water purifier frequently. Thus, you have to manage your water purifier properly to ensure that infectious toxins do not pollute the drinking water.

Evolution of purification technique

Adding chlorine to water was one of the first ways of purifying water. Chlorine releases Hydrochloric acid (HCL), which interacts with the micro-organisms and destroys them. There is a water filter on all water purifiers. There are six different forms that are:

  • Active carbon filter: Soluble gases such as chlorine, carbon monoxide, nitrogen, ammonia, and organic materials are filtered using this type of filter.
  • Biosand filter: It is a type of vessel filled with sand and gravel layers that separate polluted water from bacteria and suspended solids.
  • Reverse Osmosis (RO) filters: The Reverse Osmosis (RO) method provides multi-stage water filtration by combining activated carbon with particulate filtration.
  • Ultra Violet (UV) filters: By targeting the DNA in cells, UV light passes on to water to destroy bacteria and other microbes.
  • Ceramic filters: These are hollow cylinders typically made of clay mixed with an explosive substance such as sawdust, coffee husks, or rice husks.
  • Ion exchange resins filters: Here, water goes through resins that soften water by absorbing the present minerals.

How to maintain water purifiers

Wash the water filters every 6 to 12 months, depending on the manufacturer’s instructions and the water supply quality.

Since total dissolved solids (TDS) can produce a bad smell when it accumulates, it is essential to have the filters cleaned periodically. You already have to clean the purifier if the water tastes odd or weird. Another method to check whether it is time for the cleaning of purifier is by testing the machine’s water pressure. You have to clean the purifier if the differential pressure is above 10%.

Cleaning the filters regularly:

There are usually three to five filtration stages for a water purifier. When the filters contains a lot of impurities and stops working, then it means that we need to clean and sanitize them regularly.

  • In the pre-filtration stage, they contain a filter cartridge that leaves out sand, and other sediments consist of the pre-filtering process. Every six to nine days (for industrial RO) and every quarter (for Domestic RO), you must change the pre-filter cartridge.
  • The second stage of the filtration process is the carbon filter that eliminates chlorine and bad smell.
  • The third stage is where the residual sediments are excluded and drained from the membrane.

Cleaning and sanitization:

Water purifier must be well washed and sanitized by specialists. 2-3 times in a year, depends on volume of water filtered; it needs to go through sanitization and also recharge. It is better to call a professional for this process. We should do this step very carefully. So it’s better to have an expert to clean and sanitize your water purifier. Avoid use of the water right after cleaning.

Installing softener for efficient functioning:

Softeners work well with a water purifier scheme. The softener helps to improve the durability of water purifiers. It is challenging to add softeners since you need to know where to mount them. Usually professionals do this processes or procedure as it involves a large amount of plumbing.

Keep the water purifier’s exteriors CLEAN:

To make your water purifier last longer, you need to clean it frequently. Also, make sure you continue to clean the tap that is mostly connected to the water purifier. Also, you can use soap water to clean the outside surface area of the water purifier.

Bottom Line

A water purifier guarantees that it removes all the physical or organic impurities and clear from the water you use. It ensures that the water you use is clean and uncontaminated by using a combination of various filters and purification technologies. It is, therefore, necessary to investigate the periodic maintenance of water purifiers and their filters. Getting your water purifier frequently serviced by expert technicians ensures that it offers optimal cleaning at all times.
